Pictures circulating on social media showed Eric Lamela, Sergio Reguillon and Giovanni Le Celso at the party in London, and West Ham player Manuel Lanzini also attended.
The restrictions imposed by the UK government prohibit mixing with other people at home, as London is in the highest level 4 area of lockdown due to the rapid spread of a new strain of Covid-19.
Tottenham reacted angrily, with all three players facing disciplinary action, while West Ham said Lanzini had „been strongly reminded of his responsibilities.“
Lamila was not included in Tottenham’s squad for Saturday’s match against Leeds while the starting player, Reguilon, who signed this summer from Real Madrid, was an unused substitute. Lo Celso came out injured.
„We are deeply disappointed and strongly condemn this photo that shows some of our players with family and friends together at Christmas, especially as we know the sacrifices made by everyone across the country to stay safe during the holidays,“ Tottenham said in a statement.
“The rules are clear, there are no exceptions, and we regularly remind all our players and employees of the latest protocols and their responsibilities to adhere to and provide an example.
„The matter will be dealt with internally.“
Tottenham Member of Parliament David Lamy also took to social media to express his views, describing the trio as „idiots and selfish“ in a post.
The rest of the Spurs players ignored the controversy on the field by winning 3-0 at Leeds United to move to third place in the Premier League standings, four points behind first and second places Liverpool and Manchester United.
Impressive after his rise, Leeds was better than early openers before Stephen Burgoyne was bogged down by Izgan Aleowski and Harry Kane did not foul from the penalty spot to give Tottenham the lead.
He then merged with his attacking partner Sun Heung-min to send the South Korean into the second match, his 100th for Tottenham.
The three points were effectively clinched when Son’s corner kick rebounds in the second half with a header at the post near Toby Derferfield.
Matt Doherty’s late dismissal for a second yellow card removed the sparkle of Tottenham’s excellent victory, but coach Jose Mourinho was content with the „three important points“.
Mourinho referred in passing to the disciplinary cases facing three of his stars for breaking the rules.
„I think every team is doing its best for their players to keep them safe, but there are moments in private life that you cannot control,“ he told BTS Sport.
„Not everyone can be blamed, so we have to keep going,“ he added.
Mourinho criticized the Premier League after canceling his team’s midweek match against Fulham late, and doubled down on the postponements.
„I go back to the elementary rules that if you have 14 players, you should play. I don’t see another reason not to do that.“
Earlier, Fulham’s match against Burnley on Sunday was postponed due to Covid-19 positives at West London club.
